What are your employees saying about you?
Heads up: Your company’s being reviewed. Thanks to help of a few Web sites, your employees can vent their frustrations to potential candidates and anyone else who will listen.
One of those sites is called Criticat. Their motto is “Your company reviews you annually but you never get to review your company. Not anymore.” Of course, that generally isn’t true, but the site promises to help job candidates make informed decisions and let current employees advise their companies on how they can improve.
Surprisingly, the site hasn’t become just a big forum for ticked-off workers. Random browsing through the reviews showed mostly positive comments. The focus seems pretty narrow – most of the companies on there are in the technology industry and a good chunk of the reviewers are based in India.
However, another site called JobVent has a wider reach. They’ve got comments about all sorts of companies, which seem to vary a lot in terms of size. This one also feels much more negative overall. Check out the scores of the worst-reviewed companies compared to the ones with the best reviews:
If your company’s on there with a bad review, I don’t think I would panic about it. The companies at the bottom of the site’s barrel seem to be doing pretty well for themselves. And, just like in the office, a handful of gripers isn’t necessarily indicative of the whole workforce.
Though you’d probably be well-advised to learn from those complaints. It can be a valuable tool for you if someone leaves good insights. The more you can find out about how your employees feel, the better.
