Most companies OK with shopping at work

Now that the holidays are almost here, employees have a new workplace distraction. What are managers doing about it?
Not much, according to a recent survey by the Information Systems Audit and Control Association.
About 63% of employees plan to do some of their holiday shopping from their desks — and more than half (55%) of IT managers say their companies won’t stop them.
There are some concerns about lost time — 46% of the managers surveyed guessed their organizations would lose at least $3,000 worth of productivity per employee because of holiday shopping.
However, most companies don’t come down too hard on workers who use their computers for personal reasons. In fact, some experts argue that strict Web use policies can cause resentment among employees and actually lower their productivity.
