Product Overview
Orange HRM has two versions of its software system: Orange HRM, the free open-source paltform and Orange HRM Live, an advanced SaaS system available as a pay as you go and pay per employee system that can be installed easily online in 15 minutes without the need for an IT staff. The Orange HRM version is “the world’s most popular open source HR system with over 500,000 downloads and a million users worldwide” and it provides modules for personnel information management, employee self service, leave, time and attendance, benefits and recruitment. While there are some upgrades and advantages of choosing the Orange HRM Live version over the free Orange HRM like training and budgeting capabilities, the free version does provide a lot of great resources that can be helpful for many small to medium sized companies.
Throughout this review, we will highlight the differences in the two systems under each feature category to help you make the best decision possible when it comes to choosing the right human resources program for your company.
Who Should Use This Product
Anyone from human resource managers and staff to administrators can find the Orange HRM systems useful. With modules covering simple organizational tasks to complicated tracking and reporting modules, these products seem to be able to make the tasks of many employees much easier.
Compensation and Benefits Features
The Benefit Module on each of the versions manages all benefit-related tasks. Managers can easily organize benefits history and other information, and create summary reports through rich reporting tools and capabilities. Medical and welfare benefits are available as standard, and there is the possibility of defining new benefits features as it applies to your organization.
Compensation features can also be stored as a part of the Benefits Module which contains a payroll management feature and also will be put into the PIM (Personal Information Module) for each employee. All of the features in the Benefits Module are available as standards in both editions of the Orange HRM software.
Performance Review Features
The Performance Module and the Report Module are helpful in creating performance review documents. The Performance Module simplifies the performance review process you can communicate the key performance indicators for each job title and allow the employees to understand and achieve your expectations.
The Reports Module produces customized reports according to your specific needs. Any number of reports can be defined by selecting from a range of search criteria and report fields, and your searches will be saved so you can reduce the time it takes to create multiple reports. All managers need to do then is fill in the required information and a report will be generated based on that input. Both the Reports Module and the Performance Module have features that come as standard to both editions of this software.
Application Tracking Features
The Recruitment Module allows HR professionals to generate templates and documentation to streamline the whole recruitment process, from reaching out to applicants to filing resumes and supplemental materials. The recruitment process‚ including requests for staff‚ approval of vacancies‚ entering requirements‚ capturing candidates information‚ short-listing‚ interview notes and other features are all covered under this one module, making the tasks of human resource managers much easier during this otherwise paper-heavy time. With the Live version of the software, managers can get interview notifications through the system as well as design custom application forms for potential employees.
Government Compliance Features
There is no specific module for issues dealing with government compliance in either of the versions of Orange HRM.
Training/Learning Management Features
While there is no specific data in Orange HRM that tracks the training or learning required or needed by employees, the PIM (Personal Information Module) would be a great place to store all information regarding employees’ training and learning data. In this module you can keep all fields current, like education, skills, licenses and certifications, and have all of this information readily available when employees enquire about their extended training requirements.
Time and Attendance Features
The Leave Module and the Time and Attendance Module help with tracking and maintaining patterns of attendance. The Leave Module, available as a standard feature of the Orange HRM Live only, caters to all application and approval processes and is able to display information on leave entitlement‚ balance‚ and history. Managers can define the leave types and requests for each employee and define their days off, helping to eliminate wasteful paperwork and save time. They can also view the Leave Summary for all employees on one screen, making scheduling and identifying trends easy to spot. Since this web-based platform also comes with a self-service feature, employees can log on to view their leave schedules and request time off. Managers will then get an email notification when an employee has put in a new request or made changes to their schedule, making sure everyone is in sync with any changes that have been made.
The Time and Attendance Module automates time tracking related processes and organizes labor data‚ improves the workforce management and minimizes errors in enforcement of company’s attendance policies. Working in conjunction with the Leave Module, managers can create schedules and time sheets and view requested days off to help schedule and organize projects with customers, while employees can effortlessly clock in and out to log their hours. With the Orange HRM Live version, managers can also extract reports through this module.
Orange HRM also has an Admin Module and a PIM module that can be very helpful and should be considered when making purchasing decisions. The Admin Module in the free edition includes everything from defining company structure‚ pay grades, employee information, email subscription lists, company information, job qualifications and information, and other information that serves as the backbone for the rest of the system. The Orange HRM Live version includes this plus features to develop an audit trail, human resources forms and policies and a notifications set up.
The PIM (Personal Information Module) maintains all relevant employee-related information‚ including different types of personal information‚ detailed qualifications and work experience‚ job related information, and more. Managers can also choose to upload a picture of employees to attach to their profiles as well. Information captured in this module is utilized by all other modules‚ helping to eliminate data redundancy, and both the free and paid versions of the software have identical features.
Add-ons are available for purchase for either of the editions and range in price from $99 to $499. Each add-on and its features descriptions can be found on their website, along with pricing for the other features they have available like training, support and customization options.
