A former IT manager will spend a year in jail after hacking into the e-mail sever of the company that fired him.

Steven Barnes was found guilty of hacking into Blue Falcon Networks’ computer system and causing the company’s mail server to send spam containing pornography and viruses.

Blue Falcon fired Barnes a few months before the incident, after he worked as the company’s IT manager. Court records didn’t mention why he was terminated.

He plead guilty and was given a prison sentence of one year and one day.

The prosecutor working the case said prison time was necessary to show that the crime of hacking isn’t taken lightly.
