Are you sure you want to send that late night e-mail?

A common mistake in the work world is sending an e-mail when you’re angry, upset or otherwise not thinking properly. Google wants to help folks avoid those messy situations.

The official Gmail blog recently announced the company is testing a new feature known as “Mail Goggles.”

The feature will become active at late-night hours and ask users, “Are you sure you want to send this?” Then, the e-mailer must complete a series of simple math problems before they click “Send.”

The program seems to be aimed mostly at stopping intoxicated e-mailers, but the feature could be just as effective at preventing angry messages sent to bosses or co-workers.

Do today’s employees need a tool like this? Has anyone at your company ever gotten in trouble over e-mails that shouldn’t have been sent? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

  2. Not so much with email. Text messaging has pose a few problems though. We had to write them all out and have both the sender and receiver sign to acknowledge they were sent. It was used as documentation for an employee improvement notification.

  4. A feature making people think before hitting SEND would be a good idea, since we’re not all capable of using our own brain as a filter.
